Announcing the Opinion Poll Results in the Upcoming Elections

Since (22-28 February 2018), Kurdish Institute for Elections  (KIE) as a non-profit, non-governmental organization that specializes on elections, conducted an online opinion poll on the upcoming Iraqi Election of representative council, and has received responses from 1988 potential voters. The opinion poll consisted of 8 questions, with demographic information that included age, gender and residence.

 According to the responses to the poll, 78% of the respondents will participate in the upcoming elections, while 11% have stated that they will not participate in the elections.

Also according to the responses to the poll conducted by Kurdish Institute for Elections, 71% of the participants believe that the upcoming elections will change the political dynamics. While 28% believe that elections will lead to significant changes, 43% believe that there will be small changes in the political dynamics of the region. 

The conclusions of the Opinion Poll are:

1) According to KIE's poll, a high percentage of respondents (%78) will participate in the upcoming elections.

2) According to KIE's poll, 11% of the respondents will not participate in the upcoming elections.

3)  The poll shows that there is a widespread hope that the political dynamics will change in many levels (%70).

4) There is a considerable change in the political and civic mentality of the voters. This can be observed according to the following points:

     More than half of the respondents will vote according to the political programs of the parties.

     36% of the respondents are not voting for the parties that they have voted in the previous elections.

     More than half of the respondents are asking for limited open lists, 25% are asking for open free lists, whereas 17% of them are asking for closed list.
