Training on Electronic Voting

On April 7 2018, members of Kurdish Institute for Elections (KIE) attended training in the main office of the Independent High Elections Commission of Iraq (IHEC) in Erbil on new technologies that will be used in the upcoming Iraqi Federal Elections. These new technologies consisted of:

-           Voter Information Identification System

-           Biometric Voter Card

-           Device for counting and sorting votes quickly (electronic ballot box)

-           An electronic pen for verifying voters

-           A barcode on Voter Cards

-           New and different cards for public and private voters

In the beginning of the training participants watched a video that explains how the electronic ballot box and its alternative are constituted and used. Later, participants tried the new devices and were demonstrated how to use them. Members of Kurdish Institute for Elections learned how to use these two technological devices in a practical way. At the end of the training, a practical demonstration was held on how to vote and count the voter lists and candidates electronically. The training lasted for 3 hours.

Kurdish Institute for Elections and the Independent High Elections Comission of Iraq in the Kurdistan Region confirmed their collaborative work and the IHEC voiced its appreciation for Kurdish Institute for Elections’ work. Kurdish Institute for Elections completely supports the monitoring of elections and instructive training on electrionic devices for elections, and any other collaborations with IHEC before, throughout and in the aftermath of the elections.
