Citizens and Electoral enlightenment Campaign

From20 June, 2009-25 july, 2009, in scope of IRI project KIE carried out the following activities:

1. Holding8workshops in Darbandikhan, Kalar, Qalladiza, Raniya, Penjuin, Saidsadq, Hallabja and chamchamal districts where 468 citizens will be participated (336 male, 132 female) and each workshop lasted two hours. Within the workshops, KIE has encouraged the general populations to participate in the upcomingKurdistanparliament and presidency electoral process.

1. The trainer has given a brief presentation about each of the principles of the fair and free elections, basis and elements of the process, who are the people would be involved in the electoral process, what is their roles, duties and obligations??

He/she also has talked about the campaign stages and the polling day. The election violated rules and the election crimes were the other topics that were denoted by the trainer during the session.

Then the invitees have given great participations in the discussions. They discussed about the role of election process in the renewal of the dimensions of political and civic fields. The scope of the discussions reached to that range of talking about violations of human rights by the political power, lack of social equality and equity, lack of services, lack of individual freedom and other public problems in the society.

Several weekly newspapers' reporters, local leaders, representatives of political entities had attended the session to cover the event.

2. Printing and distributing 100,000 leaflets within above mentioned districts to encourage the general populations to participate in the upcomingKurdistanparliament and presidency electoral process.

The leaflets also helped them to recognize the name of the candidates, the lists with their specific logos and numbers. In addition of helping the voters to educate the concepts of democracy, free elections. it also helped them to recognize the right lists to represent them in the parliament in accordance to the people's rights and the future well being for the whole community.

The positive impacts of the leaflets was proved by the results of the election in which a great number of people participated in the polling and as it was clear that many of those have voted to those who are seen to be reliable to represent the people in the future parliament in the region.
