Kurdish Institute for Elections KIE

Kurdish Institute for Elections KIE is a public, non-governmental and autonomous organization, independent in its functioning and decision-making process. It was found in 2002. It aims at promoting civic education of the citizens and fostering individuals’ political participation via the polling systems.

 KIE's Mission:
- Enhancing basic principles of certainty, legality, independence, impartiality and objectivity.
- Carrying out in an integral and direct way various activities that are related to political participation, organizational works, capacity building and surveillance of the Iraqi electoral process.
- Promoting the establishment of management committees in running the organizations and foster group working principles

 KIE's Guiding Principles:
- Fostering dialogue in decision-making through consensus.
- Raising the electoral awareness of the citizens and enhancing the legal system of the election at the country level.
- Strengthening democratic principles by encouraging participations and recognizing the values of their votes in the polling process.
- Maintaining the forbearance of conventions among people and consolidating individual rights in political participation.
- Raising awareness among the citizens about democracy values and develop the civil society principles.
- Following international guidelines and conventions for the electoral systems and principles.

Working Mechanisms:
- Preparation of draft laws and amendments to existing laws by presenting the matter to the Kurdish Parliament. 
- Translation and publication.
- Preparing and publishing research.
- Conducting training courses.
- Broadcasting radio and television programs.
- Monitoring local governmental and non-governmental elections and evaluating them based on international standards.
- Conducting questionnaires and reports.
- Managing public debates and seminars.
